Having Problems With Your Joystick?

Troubleshooting

Welcome to the MaxxStick troubleshooting guide! This is your handy resource for solving any issues you might encounter with your MaxxStick. We’ve made things simple and easy, so you’ll be back to gaming in no time. Let’s get started!

Setup Issues

Sometimes games can be tricky to set up. Before assuming there’s an issue with your MaxxStick, it’s important to check if the problem is with the MaxxStick itself or the game’s settings.

Start by opening the Maxx Utility. Connect your MaxxStick and ensure your browser settings are configured as described in the utility. Once connected, check if the MaxxStick sends data, such as the firmware version. Move the joystick and see if there’s movement in the black circle displayed in the Maxx Utility.

If everything looks fine in the Maxx Utility, the issue likely lies in how your game settings are configured.

To connect your MaxxStick to the Maxx Utility, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Maxx Utility.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Select your MaxxStick from the list. You need to ensure the MaxxStick is highlighted in the list.
  4. Then click OK.

Once connected, the Maxx Utility will display the connection status. If it still doesn’t connect, reach out for support below.

Physical Issues

Welcome to the Physical Troubleshooting section! Here we address physical issues related to the MaxxStick Keyboard Joystick. Our aim is to quickly resolve hardware problems that can disrupt your gaming. Let’s work together to ensure optimal device performance.

If your joystick is getting stuck, grinding, or not returning to the middle, it’s likely the thumbstick has been pulled up slightly and is rubbing against the surrounding area.

Fix: Push the thumbstick down into place. This should resolve the issue.

We offer replacement parts for MaxxStick owners:

  1. Shipping Damage or Recently Received (14 Days): If your MaxxStick was damaged during shipping or you received it less than 14 days ago, we’ll replace the damaged components for free.

Movement Issues

Welcome to the Movement Troubleshooting section! This is your dedicated resource for resolving common movement-related issues experienced with the MaxxStick Keyboard Joystick. Let’s navigate through these solutions together and get you back in the game.

If your MaxxStick isn’t moving smoothly or has areas you can’t access, try these steps:

  1. Update Your Firmware: Ensure you’re running the newest firmware. Outdated firmware can cause performance issues.

  2. Calibrate Your MaxxStick: Proper calibration is key. Visit our setup page for instructions. If calibration data wasn’t clean, it could cause movement problems. Recalibrate to fix this.

  3. Wear and Tear: If your MaxxStick has a traditional potentiometer joystick, it might be worn out. Contact us for replacement parts if needed.

Game Issues

Welcome to the Game Issues Troubleshooting section! Here, we’re focused on helping you resolve common game-specific challenges you may encounter with the MaxxStick Keyboard Joystick.

Many cases of this can be attributed to two possibilities.

  1. There is an issue with a loose connection with the USB cable. We suggest trying a different USB cable.
  2. Depending on the peripherals in your system, you may be overloading the USB port group that the MaxxStick is plugged into.

We suggest rearranging what you have plugged into your USB port groups such that the MaxxStick is not plugged into a group of high-power USB devices.

If your MaxxStick isn’t working for movement in keyboard mode, here’s how to fix it:

  1. Default Key Bindings: By default, the MaxxStick is set to control the arrow keys, not WASD. Most games use WASD for movement, so you’ll need to adjust this.

  2. Update Movement Keys in the Maxx Utility: Open the Maxx Utility, go to the Keyboard tab, and make note of the keys the MaxxStick is actuating. Go to your in game keyboard settings and adjust in-game movement keybinds to match the MaxxStick.

  3. Test Your Key Outputs: Use a keyboard tester like en.key-test.ru to check what keys the MaxxStick is sending.

Make sure the movement keys in your game match what the MaxxStick is set to.

Fortnite Issues

Welcome to the Fortnite Troubleshooting section! Here, we tackle common issues faced by Fortnite players using the MaxxStick Keyboard Joystick. We understand that encountering problems during your gaming session can be frustrating, and we’re committed to getting you back to your Battle Royale matches as quickly as possible. This section provides straightforward solutions to frequent Fortnite problems, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience.

If you’re having trouble moving in Fortnite with your MaxxStick, follow these steps:

  1. Check MaxxStick Mode: Ensure your MaxxStick is set to Xinput Mode. Switch to this mode if it isn’t already.

  2. Update Fortnite Settings

    • Go to Settings in Fortnite.
    • Enable Lock Input As Mouse.
    • Disable Ignore Gamepad.

These settings are required for the MaxxStick to work properly in Fortnite.

This is “normal” behavior. Epic Games made “Lock Input As Mouse” work during gameplay but didn’t fully extend it to menus like the inventory.

While the flashing can be distracting, it won’t stop you from accessing or controlling the inventory menu. You can still use it as intended.

If you’d like to help get this fixed, let @FortniteStatus on X (formerly Twitter) know about the issue!

Fortnite doesn’t work well with multiple controllers connected at the same time. If there’s more than one controller detected, it might not pick up the MaxxStick.

To check for other controllers, open the Windows Game Controllers utility:

  1. Press the Win key, type “usb game,” and open the utility.
  2. Look for the MaxxStick in the list.
  3. If other controllers appear, disconnect them.

Some keyboards also have built-in controller functions that Fortnite might detect. If you’re using one of these, check your keyboard settings or manual to disable its controller features.

Once the MaxxStick is the only controller Fortnite sees, it should work properly.
