How a Small Keyboard Joystick Idea Became a Movement in PC Gaming
Our first prototype appeared in late 2021. We printed it by hand, tested it with our growing loyal community, and assembled each unit with help from family and friends. Orders came in faster than we could produce them and we were doing our best to keep up with production. Since then we’ve come up with many designs over the years based on the feedback many of our dedicated customers have shared with us. Players wrote about comfort, about the feel, and about how our keyboard joystick helped them enjoy PC gaming in a way that finally blended controller movement with mouse precision. Our MaxxStick community did not just support what we were building. It completely shaped it.
Hand building each unit had a ton of limitations and our capacity and ability to continue producing keyboard joysticks was slow. Logistics were an absolute nightmare at times especially with the tariff news. Every singe one of our pc gaming joysticks depended on hours of printing and fine-tuning, and even then, we could barely keep up with demand from our customers. It became clear that if our little PC joystick company was going to make it to the big leagues, we needed to evolve. That realization is what took us to look at mass production.
In late 2022, one of our founders decided to travel around South East Asia and on the last leg of his trip, he ended up in Vietnam, where the journey of turning a handmade idea into a fully engineered product began. The culture, the friendships, the hardwork that he saw in Vietnam made a huge impact on him, and he realized that starting their manufacturing there would be the best place for the future of MaxxStick.
Where the Keyboard Joystick Vision Took Shape
Working closely with experienced manufacturers and designers in the US, Canada and Vietnam, we spent hundreds of hours refining the design through exact measurements and countless adjustments. Injection molds were created, tested, corrected, and tested again until the final shape felt balanced and natural in the hand. We spent months in Vietnam working closely with our manufacturers to make sure that we shaped the best possible joystick. When the first molded shells came off the line, the difference was immediate. Smooth, Polished & Precise. This was finally the version that could be made at scale without losing the soul that made the original special.
This transition changed everything. Injection molding not only improved the look and feel of the MaxxStick Ergo Pro, but also allowed us to meet demand and improve logistics to the point where free shipping became possible. The late nights of printing and assembling one unit at a time gave way to a refined manufacturing process that delivered consistency, reliability and scale. The Ergo Pro only exists because we stepped out of the workshop, crossed an ocean, and committed to building something worthy of the players who believed in us.
